The decision by COPE's interim leadership to hold the party's elective conferencing May has been claimed as a victory by supporters of Cope deputy president Mbhazima Shilowa, especially its youth wing.
The party's congress national committee decided at a weekend strategy and planning meeting to hold the conference at the earliest possible date, before the end of May, rather than in mid-December.

South Africa's Congress of the People (COPE) will hold its crucial elective conference in May. The newest party in South African politics however denies that its youth movement has forced its hand to elect a new leadership at the conference.
COPE is a restive political party of late and its youth movement says the party is informed by power struggles and disjointed leadership.
It wants congress to elect new leaders before June and COPE's leadership appears to have given in to this demand.

Congress of the People's Youth Movement has resolved to dissolve the Central National Committee and hold elections by May.
This plan of action was decided during a weekend meeting.
The Gauteng branch of the party has also decided to support this action.

THE Congress of the People (COPE) Youth Movement has passed a vote of no confidence in the party's national leadership and called for the immediate dissolution of the national committee.
The Mbhazima Shilowa- aligned youth wing yesterday proposed that an early elective and policy conference be held by the end of May.
The proposal is contained in a discussion document adopted by the youth wing as its official position at a weekend national steering committee in Johannesburg.
